EAST RUTHERFORD,N.Y (April, 27 2019) – Round 16 of the Monster Energy Supercross series returned to the East Coast in East Rutherford, New Jersey and took place inside the MetLife Stadium. Marvin Musquin was on the gas during qualifying and had an impressive ride from almost last to salvaging a top-five finish overall.
Musquin kicked off the day with claiming the top qualifying position and had great momentum going into the 450SX Heat 2. He shot off the line quickly putting himself into second and battled for the lead majority of the race. On lap five he made the pass for first and held strong till the checkered flag.
Musquin line up for the 450SX Main Event with confidence and got off to a great start but as he was approaching the first turn he lost his balance and collided into the rider ahead of him. After multiple riders trampled over him, Musquin re-mounted and began charging his way to the front from almost last place. By the eighth lap Musquin had made his way through the pack and into the top-ten. From there, he put in one more last minute charge and grabbed a fifth-place finish.
Musquin: “Started the day off great with only two practices and the track was awesome. I began battling with Zach [Osborne] during the heat and got around him and won the heat race so that was a great start to the night program. I was definitely looking forward to the main event but unfortunately I lost my balance on the first turn and ran into the back of another rider. It was a huge bummer, considering I was feeling great all day today. From dead last I came back to fifth-place, it’s a good race but it didn’t bring me what I wanted points-wise and I wanted to win tonight. But is what it is, it’s racing and things like that obviously happen.”
