BUCHANAN,Mich. (July 7, 2018) – In front of an impressive crowd at historical RedBud MX, Marvin Musquin earned his second consecutive victory and locked down the 450 series points lead in front of thousands of fans in Michigan. It wasn’t an easy ride for Musquin as he had to overcome a crash in the second turn during the opening lap and battle his way from the back to second and backed it up with an impressive ride during the second moto. His 2-1 moto scores earned him the overall victory and is now the new owner of the red plate.
Musquin’s opening moto didn’t start out as he planned, as he went down in the second corner and began his battle for the lead from nearly dead last. Using precise lines choices, Musquin quickly made his way to 12thby the third lap and continued his acceleration to claim 5thby the halfway point. He worked his way around Benny Bloss with only three laps to go and inherited second from Eli Tomac by the end of the moto.
In the second moto, Musquin got off to a good start and took over the lead during the opening lap. He battled Ken Roczen briefly for the lead but Musquin regained control and held his position till the end of the moto claiming his second consecutive victory and is now the 450 series points leader heading into Millvile in two weeks with a three-point lead.
Musquin: “I can’t believe I came back to second place in the first moto. When Frankie [Latham, mechanic] showed me second place on the pit board, I was like, really? It was a crazy race, so having a shot of winning the overall after that was great. I was looking forward to the second moto. I got a great start and was able to get into the lead. My goal was to stay consistent and mistake-free. I was able to stay on two wheels and keep Kenny and Barcia behind me. It’s crazy to be leading the championship now. Anything can happen. It’s only another race, and there’s a lot to go. The fans were unbelievable here. I really enjoyed it. Having the second win in a row is amazing.”
