CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.(August 26, 2018) – Marvin Musquin and his team, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing gathered for the last round of the Pro Motocross season at Ironman Raceway, finishing third-overall for the day and standings.
Due to extreme weather conditions there was only one qualifying season for the day and Musquin took full advantage by clocking the third fastest lap. During Moto 1, Musquin started out mid-packed and made his way through the muddy slop into seventh on the opening lap. Then, with two laps to go, Musquin made the pass on Phil Nicoletti for fourth. Which prevented Eli Tomac from wrapping up the championship and still undecided heading into the final moto.
In Moto 2, Musquin got off to a fourth place start and by the halfway point of the race, began battling Cooper Webb, eventually overtaken the third place position. Then, Musquin got caught up with a lapped rider who went down and ended up back in fourth. It wasn’t long before he took back the third place spot with only 5 minutes left and two laps to go and finished third-overall for the final moto of 2018.
It was a great season for Musquin who fought Eli Tomac till the very end. He stayed consentient with six moto wins and held the points lead after RedBud.
Musquin: “Today at Ironman, it was very tough conditions. We had a LOT of rain in the morning and I didn’t get a good start in the first moto, so it was really tough for me to get into the speed of the top guys. The second half of the moto was a lot better, I found my groove and better lines but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough and I got fourth. The second moto, I got a better start and I battled back to third place, so another podium, yeah, but definitely not what I wanted today. I expected a little bit more to be honest. I got second in the championship, so it’s a good year overall – I was more consistent and got more podiums but the competition was definitely really high this year.”
